When companies merge, situations often arise in which two completely different cultures clash. Both sides experience the strain caused by prejudice, misunderstandings and conflicts. The corporate management may know how to combine the business aspects of the two companies, but often do not consider the importance of uniting the corporate cultures.

Real Life Example

A German company is taken over by an American corporation. A consulting agency is asked to evaluate the situation in the Germany company and mentions that the level of English spoken by employees is too low. After working together to increase the necessary language skills, it became more and more evident that the employees needed support in questions regarding corporate culture. Which regulations listed in the American dress code are appropriate for the German location? How can the guidelines for corporate stationery be implemented in Germany, when the standard paper size is so different? And many, many more…

Conflicts dominate our lives. Whether in personal or professional contexts, people with different views meet each other. The discussions are often like ships passing in the night, no mutual solution can be found. The input from a third party can be essential in making sure that both sides understand each other and find a way to move forward.

Real Life Example

A congregation finds itself in a problematic situation. They no longer have a good relationship to their pastor. A mutual decision is made that the pastor should serve the church in another location. The congregation now not only has to deal with the fact that they have no leader, but conflicts have arisen among the members concerning how this situation was handled. I supported this congregation over a period of two years, working with them in group and individual coaching sessions. We worked out what had gone wrong in the past and decided on a strategy for the members to establish how they wanted to approach each other and the new pastor in the future.
