Coaching

Upgrade Language Competence

for Practical Use

What makes my coaching sessions special? As a native speaker of English I know the dilemmas you can face when using the English language. I know what level of language you need to use to achieve your goals. In personal coaching sessions we can work together on discovering the means you need to prepare yourself for negotiations, discussions or dealing with conflicts in English.

Real Life Example

An employee in the legal department of a Germany subsidiary of an American corporation was born in Eastern Europe. She needs to bridge the gap between her German supervisor and his American boss when discussing issues connected with the founding of a new company in Russia. In personal sessions we took the cultural aspects into account and used these to write texts which explained the issues clearly and made sure that the needs of all involved were duly considered.

Together we can analyze your situation and decide which tools can help you express yourself clearly and assure that you also understand the requirements of the other side more completely. Would you like to find out more about my coaching sessions? Then contact me!

Team Building

Recognize and Nurture Staff Members

Every day staff in companies is confronted with new assignments. Often they are not well prepared to take over these responsibilities. Without the right preparation they may run into things that they do not know and cannot deal with. How well do you know your staff? Do you know who has which skills and how you can use these effectively within your team?

Real Life Example

A company tries to implement a new policy to become the market leader in their industry. This means that the current teams are given new tasks to accomplish. Together we formulate new targets and work on ways to execute the new ideas. Using TMS as a tool to provide additional input, we can examine the profiles of the staff and decide who has the skills needed to take on the new challenges.

I can support you in ascertaining the skills of your employees and then decide who is best capable to master the new responsibilities. Would you like to benefit more fully from the potential of your staff and help them achieve better results? Then contact me!

Group Dynamics

Comprehend Roles and

Emotions in Groups

People working in groups are often confronted with misunderstandings, especially when the dynamics in the group move into an area in which they have never worked before. In such situations it is important to acknowledge the emotions which arise at the moment and recognize the various roles of the group members.

Real Life Example

For over ten years I have been the leader for groups of participants who are being trained to be facilitators for parenting programs. Many of them have only worked with children or with individuals in other contexts. Therefore they have to learn to adjust their views and acquire new techniques and strategies to use in the parenting courses. Participants who want to become parenting trainers are faced with clients who are dealing with very personal and emotional topics revolving around children and their upbringing. In these groups it is necessary for the trainers to learn to assess, attend to, and, when necessary, shape the needs of the individual participants and the entire group. In doing so all involved learn to manage their situation at home better.

I can support you when groups have to learn to deal with new challenges and make their opinions understood. Would you like to understand the various roles in the groups you work with better and respond to the participants in an appropriate manner? Then contact me!

Negotiations

Enhance Competence,
Cope with Negotiations

Negotiations can be very demanding, especially when the parties come from completely different countries and cultures. Multinational companies often find it difficult to get all their staff members on the same page. When they do so, their customers and suppliers worldwide experience a comparable level of competence.

Real Life Example

A global chemical company wanted to develop and implement an integrated strategy for staff members who negotiate the registration of new products with government officials. Since 2004 we have cooperated closely to assure that the colleagues in Europe, Asia and the Americas extend their competence and improve their approach to negotiations by working through realistic case studies.

I can support you in bringing various groups from an array of cultures around the table to develop solutions which will help you have more success in the future. Would you like to achieve an increased level of cooperation among colleagues from various cultures? Then contact me!

Culture Change

Understand Cultures,

Unite Cultures

When companies merge, situations often arise in which two completely different cultures clash. Both sides experience the strain caused by prejudice, misunderstandings and conflicts. The corporate management may know how to combine the business aspects of the two companies, but often do not consider the importance of uniting the corporate cultures.

Real Life Example

A German company is taken over by an American corporation. A consulting agency is asked to evaluate the situation in the Germany company and mentions that the level of English spoken by employees is too low. After working together to increase the necessary language skills, it became more and more evident that the employees needed support in questions regarding corporate culture. Which regulations listed in the American dress code are appropriate for the German location? How can the guidelines for corporate stationery be implemented in Germany, when the standard paper size is so different? And many, many more…

I can support you in understanding the culture on the other side and find a way to make a single corporate culture which takes the viewpoints of both sides into consideration. Respecting individuals, understanding the others‘ perspectives and tolerating others’ ideas are vital aspects of the way I work. Would you like to experience a corporate culture which reflects the new face of your company and breaks down the hurdles which exist when communicating with each other? Then contact me!

Conflict Management

Settle Conflicts,

Find Solutions

Conflicts dominate our lives. Whether in personal or professional contexts, people with different views meet each other. The discussions are often like ships passing in the night, no mutual solution can be found. The input from a third party can be essential in making sure that both sides understand each other and find a way to move forward.

Real Life Example

A congregation finds itself in a problematic situation. They no longer have a good relationship to their pastor. A mutual decision is made that the pastor should serve the church in another location. The congregation now not only has to deal with the fact that they have no leader, but conflicts have arisen among the members concerning how this situation was handled. I supported this congregation over a period of two years, working with them in group and individual coaching sessions. We worked out what had gone wrong in the past and decided on a strategy for the members to establish how they wanted to approach each other and the new pastor in the future.

Would you like to clear up conflicts to be equipped for moving into the future? Then contact me!

Express Yourself

Use Language to Make an Impact

If employees, who normally speak German, have to explain complex situations in English, it is not unusual for them to be confronted with misunderstandings. They are often lacking the specialized terminology and intercultural experience; therefore they cannot express themselves adequately and attain the goals they have set for themselves. As I was born and raised in the US, I know both sides well and can support you in your efforts to learn to express yourself more appropriately and understand the other culture better.

Real Life Example

An employee of an HR department in Germany attempts to explain to the management of the parent company in the US why it is necessary to adhere to the German laws concerning maternity/paternity leave and the codetermination rights of the works council. She wants them to understand what the consequences are if the American company does not comply with these regulations.

The most important aspect here is a resolute, but at the same time diplomatic form of expression. I can support you when you need to express yourself skillfully and overcome linguistic stumbling blocks. Would you like to convince others of your ideas when you speak English and be sure that others understand your point of view? Then contact me!
